A picture says a thousand words.
A casual walk down to the chicken coop with two of the most stunning girls and equally wonderful mummy, made for some of those endless moments in time.
There were chickens, princess crowns and endless cuddles and of course that glorious time of day when the light hits the valley with a sea of summer glow.
Here are some of my favourites.
One of my many reasons as to why I love home photo shoots is because you can wear and do whatever you like and when that is the case in most situations, everyone is happy.
Tash and her little ones casually did what they were doing best, just hanging out! I was that little fly on the wall while in three parts of the house while the three (and a half) of them walked in and out of rooms, played dress-ups, talked tummy time and enjoyed each others company. There was definitely a fascination with looking outside and checking for the postman which provided some gorgeous room for dark silhouettes.
Intimate moments are always where the heart is, at home. There were so many and we had such a beautiful time capturing these photographs. Home photo shoots are very relaxed, there is no agenda, no rush and even though you book a one hour session with me - overtime is a pleasure!
Simple, stunning and raw.
Noa's maternity session took place one very early morning in Coogee. The sun's warmth provided a much admired blanket to shelter the cool morning air as we slowly made our way around the southern baths.
The simplicity of photographs can capture so much. We kept things simple, chatting about the pregnancy as we went along and Noa's natural movements complimented each shot.
Maternity photography is so beautiful and something I thoroughly enjoy photographing. Before our photography session, I envisioned a beautiful, raw black and white filter over the images with a nice fine grain. These were some of my favourites. A big thank you to Noa who braved the bikini and the sun as our warmth on this day in Coogee.
Jess and her family joined me on the beautiful Bondi Beach for a family photo shoot - a shoot that became quite wet, quite quickly. Kids love the ocean, especially her two boys! Soon enough, a run up and down the beach turned into running away from the waves which - I'm sure you can guess - turned into running in and out of the ocean! This technique proved it's worth as we captured the most amazing shots.
Family photography on Bondi Beach means getting a little wet sometimes!
I love the motion in this series and the easy flowing gestures of each family member in that - if one person did something, the others would follow, making it easy to snap something cool.
The key to all photo shoots is to have fun - and we did just that!
"Julia, thank you for wonderfully capturing the essence and love in our family so many times in the last two years.
You have done 4 photo shoots for us now and so many others for our extended family and friends and each time I am captivated by the beauty and naturalness of the photos you take. Nothing twee or manufactured, just lovely photos that remind me of how lucky I am to have such an amazing family.
You're so patient with children who want to play by their own rules and adults who don't want to be photographed.
Thank you again for the special role you have played in documenting some important family milestones."
I loved hearing from Sarah.
Sarah is engaged to one of my long time good friends from school and they had moved to Sydney temporarily for Jamie's work. At 28 weeks, she was browsing the web for a photographer and came across my website. The connection between myself and Jamie was immediate and before long, I was standing on a cliff and hanging out in their apartment taking photographs for this special couple.
Yogies at heart, we snapped a few extra poses on the cliffs of Sydney's eastern suburbs.
Grace, Angus and Hamish flew down from Darwin for the week and caught up with me for a Bondi Beach photo shoot. The weather was all over the place - which is completely normal - but we captured some gorgeous moments. Hamish has such a cheeky personality and loved his first water experience! Once his feet touched the sand, it was hard to distract him at all!
See you all in Darwin!
At home with this beautiful family.

I wanted to write and thank you so much for the absolutely stunning maternity shoot you put together for my husband Jess, Baby Frankie and I. You made us feel so comfortable.
Your direction and eye for detail is out of this world.
We are so happy with all the shots you have produced and cannot wait to get them up on our walls.
I will have pleasure in recommending your work to family and friends.
We look forward to a family shoot in the next coming months.
All the best.
Suzi Goodman - Dec 2015

Suzi was amazing to photograph. Like most shoots, everyone whom I meet brings something a little different to ad to our session. Suzie, along with her gorgeous energy and beautiful smile bought flow and elegance to the images.
Prior to meeting, Suzie sent me a photograph which she wished to have replicated. It was of a woman, in studio, with a long white cloth draped over her with an entirely white background. Taking this idea, I applied it to nature and incorporated the ocean and a seaside cliff in Manly.
This is a little taste of what we captured.
My secret spot in Centennial Park houses some of the most elegant light through the trees with that glimpse of sun flair to ad to the landscape. It is always amazing shooting here in this very spot.
Our session started at 3.30pm in the Autumn, just before magic hour. I always meet with my clients a little earlier before we intend to shoot, this gives me time to meet the whole family and for you to meet me! With a bag full of bubbles, a picnic mat and angel wings, we set out to take some stunning shots.
Photographing amongst the tall blades of grass and with a fairy amongst us led to tails of all kinds of magical creatures! We even went on a little fairy expedition and apparently there were several sightings! Two sisters cuddles, endless love from mum and dad and a little bit of negotiating to sit in the grass captured us this beautiful shoot. From memory, the family received over 100 edit photographs.
Brother sister love is always gorgeous to capture, especially when you have a little boy as enthusiastic as Felix! Upon entering Rebecca's place for our second photography session in just over two years, we began to capture the sweetest of moments.
When photographing a family in their home, I am always looking for the lightest room which in this instance, the master bedroom happened to be our point of call. I moved in and out and around the room while this lovely family interacted with eachother and cheeky Felix even stopped for a chocolate raisin break.
Here are a few moments captured in time.
The early bird catches the worm and we caught this sun rise. Morning photography sessions aren't always easy to wake up to for some, but it's worth it! Jacks turned up in a gorgeous brown and golden themed outfit with a gorgeous Crystal drop which gracefully worked its way into the photographs at times.
Jacks requested a nice, casual shoot on Sydney's Tamarama Beach with her partner. We met at 7am on a Thursday morning (before work) and captured this. A nice little stroll, some dancing and endless love.
Maternity photography is so beautiful and I love having the opportunity to capture it. No matter what you wear or where you are, the photos always turn out looking enigmatic and stunning. Mixing beautiful morning light with movement, the ocean and a beautiful couple provides the perfect canvas for creating these images.
Home is where the heart is.
I found myself at this beautiful Queenslander home last week in Brisbane with the lovely Gretta and her beautiful little Heidi. The last time I saw Heidi, she was only a little baby and at the time, everyone was living in Sydney.
Gretta originally had requested a portrait photo shoot of just her, however Heidi had decided to join and we couldn't resist her cuteness. How much fun can one have in a hall way? A lot! From bedroom to hallway to stairway to mum and dads room - it was all go! We captured a number of beautiful shots in this lovely home and had so much fun in the process. Here are some of my favourites.
Katy would not let me leave the house! As soon as I arrived it was photo shoot central in their gorgeous two bedroom apartment in Manly.
Mia, a beautiful little girl, was a delight to work with and found the camera shutter fascinating! Smiles all-round.
The entire shoot was done in this very room using the bed and white walls. Simplicity at its best!
Thank you for such a wonderful, fun photo shoot guys!
New born photography is so much fun... Especially when you enter a clients home for the first time, immediately finding yourself immersed in an open canvas. And lets face it, all babies are cute - even when they cry!
I always take as much time as needed with new born photography sessions as we all know, little ones can be pretty unpredictable. New born home photography is all about taking your time and making sure everyone is in a very relaxed environment... including baby. The whole experience needs to be an enjoyable one and one to remember, not to want to forget.
This was my third family photography session with this family. I remember when Stevie was a little baby and now she welcomes her baby brother, Max. Stevie is very intrigued by Max and was evident during our session that she is still exploring her gorgeous new little friend.
Brother and sister together.
Newborn home photography is a private and personal time where family connect as one in their own surroundings so I am always hesitant to post a lot of images from my sessions.
During my time with this beautiful family - whom I have seen grow over the years - we captured some gorgeous moments, many of which are not here.
For now, here are a few moments.
I travel all over Australia. The essence of ocean and beach life never goes astray here in Byron Bay. I love photographing here for this very reason. That alone ads to the gorgeous vibe of the people and families, like this little one. Kazzie and her boys joined me for a shoot at Wategos.
Little Max was very cute and loved the sand as much as the ocean, some times even going for a little bit of a stroll a little too far!
Family photography is all about the natural connection between everyone and to capture that, the environment needs to be a relaxed one. For this family, the beach was their favourite place and an easy spot to have fun, play and take photographs.
"We are so thankful to have had some gorgeous photographs taken by Julia in our home, of our son when he was only a few weeks old. Julia was extremely patient as Jacob settled into the shoot. The photos were so natural and artistic and as a result, we have some precious memories of the fun time we had together!
I highly recommend Julia – with her professionalism, patience, passion and talent, you will receive some valuable photographs of you and your loved ones.
Thank you so much Julia – we look forward to the next time!
